1st Ferry Ride (in Canada)

Saturday was a travel day, so leaving Prince Edward Island while waiting in the lines of cars at the ferry terminal we saw this little building outside the fence.  It was a take out.  Went over, lucked into one of the moments when the window was attended and placed an order for two rock crab sandwiches. A good but not great sandwich for lunch.  I am sure the sanitation rating was A+.

Rain started falling about four minutes after this photo.  Food came about 14 minutes later.   I did run back to the car for an umbrella.

Rained a good portion of the ferry ride too. And the crossing was windy and you could actually feel the boat rock with the waves a bit.

We were on the upper deck and drove up a steep drive and on-ramp.  Larger vehicles were lower decks.  It was a big ferry.  Took about 70 minutes to cross to Nova Scotia.

The view from the car just about to unload - we had a prime disembark spot.

The ride to Sydney on Cape Breton Island where we will get the ferry tomorrow to Newfoundland was pretty through forest and along large lakes and across bays and inlets along the coast.

Rained a good bit and and often as we were passing lakes.

Sometimes high and sometimes along the shore.  It was a pretty drive, when the sun was shinning.

Got to Sydney, a port city that was the assembly point for convoys going to England during WW II during the Battle of the Atlantic.  German U- Boats were especially active off the coast here.

In case you did not know where the wolds largest violin was and were wondering.  Well wonder no longer.  It is in Sydney, NS  and we have seen it.  Documentation and certification we do not have, just the word of the clerk at the Hampton Inn and photo following.  Put up another.  That is me standing in front for scale.  It weighs 17 tons if I remember the inscription correctly - but there is a chance that is incorrect - and is 17 meters high.  one or the other.

Sunday is also a travel day— a larger and longer (6 to 8 hours depending on the tides) ferry ride to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland.
