We are on a road trip so we do a good bit of driving — hence photos "from the road" This past week we spent a lot of time along what is advertised as the "Viking Trail" or highway 430. If it is not on a list of beautiful drives in the world it ought to be. As it is the only road to St Anthony we drove it both directions, one of several roads we will do that to on this trip.
It has not been a chore to drive this one twice, nor the road yesterday in Labrador.
The water in Strait of Belle Isle, which connects to the Gulf of St Lawrence is clear as a tropical island sea. There are many little fishing towns (or settlements I guess is a better word) along the coast. That is a stack of lobster pots beside these houses and sheds.
and there is not a lot of traffic on the roads either. Patt followed that pick-up truck for many many miles.
This is Deer Lake, the south end of the Viking Trail (different truck— there are lots of pick-up trucks here).
This evening we are in Grand Falls-Windsor and below is the Exploits River, where we saw Atlantic Salmon jump on a salmon ladder that goes around a hydro-electric dam.
Now lest you think every night we are in fancy pants bed and breakfasts, some evenings we stay in motel/hotels like the Blanc Sablon Motel/Hotel pictured below in Blanc Sablon, Quebec. BS, as we will call the town for short, is the terminus of the ferry from Newfoundland and is about four miles from the Labrador border which is where we were headed - hence the stay and visit in Quebec.
Note the view out the front door of our room. Yes it is water front view, right through a heavy equipment storage yard across the street. We had room one of a probable dozen. Breakfast was good though and a costly $6.95 per plate. Patt was the only woman in the dining room. About 7-8 other men. The breakfast was that good. The waitress was not that pretty.

Enjoying the vicarious visit. Like your fancy pants home for the night.
