Belgian Restaurant Review # 1 The Munchin' House

Next time we are in Langemark, and near meal time, you betcha we are eating here. Ain't no place else we saw, so good thing we liked it. My ability to read Dutch is getting better all the time. Saw a sign with a knife and fork crossed and Munchenhof next to it and genius here translated right away.  That is court square behind Patt in the photo. That is our car too. The little one. Right in front.

Now we have eaten in the "big city" of Ieper at the Travelocity #1, #3 and #10 restaurants. Nothing to compare to the toasted ham and cheese sandwich with side salad we got here. Patt got a beer with hers. Designated driver Paul took a Coke A Cola.

Patt and beer in booth with customers at booths behind her. One with shaggy dog. All customers except me had beer. I guess no one else was driving anywhere.

I certainly hope these two are not driving — guy on left had at least four bottles of 9% beer on the counter next to him. Congenial yes, driving not so sure. Thankfully they smoked outside.

Our waitress spoke English, hello and thank you, and called a customer over to help us order as in addition to bus stop (see previous post) and Munchenhof and thank you "danke je" that is about it for my Dutch. The waitress taught us thank you so retention might not be as long as the first two words.

Oh, Langemark is a little to the north of Ieper near the German cemetery.  The town was well behind the lines in German held territory but still destroyed by long range shelling during the war.

One more thing.  Today I overheard an young English woman talking at one of the battle sites we were visiting (there are a lot of English here)  and if you were not looking it could have been Daisy of Downton Abby saying "It 's I t'ell ya, is 's"   just as sing songy and clippy as you want —cute as a button !!
