Some Singapore highlighlights

Easily one of our favorite places, well, especially Patt's was the Botanical Gardens. There were bonsai, big blooming plants and the prize winners were the orchids.  I was even impressed.  There were thousands of shapes colors and sizes.

I also liked the house of carnivorous plants.  This one I had seen on TV once.  It eats ants or insects that crawl inside and slip down the side into its bowl of poison and is digested.  The lid keeps out rain.

We took a boat ride on the Singapore River and went by the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, (Sands like in Las Vegas Sands Hotels we learned). Also was told it is the second most expensive per square foot building to build in the world.

And this outdoor having a drink - in this case a Singapore Sling and vodka tonic, is on top of

this - Raffles Place in 1-Altitude Bar, the worlds highest outdoor bar.  It is on the 63rd floor and then you walk up to the roof top.  Pretty cool- we thought so anyway.

Unfortunately it was quite hazy the afternoon we were up there and the view into the harbor was not very clear.

however straight down was pretty clear.

in the foreground is one of several museums we enjoyed.  In one we saw a movie made in 1938 that was awesome- showing life in Singapore.  It was like a newsreel made as a promotional educational movie about Singapore.  Life here then for the laborer must have been incredibly hard.

one last note about our visit here.  That is me in Chinatown.  In the blue shirt, with backpack and wearing a hat that makes me look like I have a bald spot. Well, I am shopping for Christmas.  Thinking ahead like I normally do.

And I found your gift.  Dried duck it is.  And it was on sale.  So several of ya'll will be having special presents this year.

  1. What does one do with dried duck? Is it just a big ol' hunk of duck jerkey? After hearing Dad talk about Singapore and seeing your posts, I REALLY want to go there! Of course, then I could get my own dried duck.
