Mark and Marie left yesterday and I reckon they are getting home pretty soon. Sure did hate to see them go. Had a great time with them in Cambodia and here in Penang. Did some amazing stuff together with Charles, Linda and Kate. Mark and Marie are great traveling partners and we look forward to more travels in the future. And Charles Linda and Kate set the standard for hosts.
I really like this photo of Mark at the Thaipusam festival. Reminds me of a quote Indiana Jones made about his friend ____ (?) in the movie where he was in Egypt I think and Indie was captured by the bad guys who were looking for his friend and Indie said "you will never find him, he speaks 27 languages and can melt into a thousand disguises and disappear into any crowd". Yes, just like Mark.
(Any ideas on who it is in the movie I am talking about and which movie?)(little help here would be appreciated)
and my favorites of fruit man, just wish I had gotten it framed better.
Note the guy in white looking at me in the center of the photograph — he signaled to one of the "helpers" on the ground who were passing up the offerings to these guys to pass to me an apple he picked out of the pile of loot from within the rolling Chariot that was on the way to the Waterfall Temple. As the helper handed me the apple he tagged my forehead with a white dash. The guy on the wagon then proceeded to pass apples to all in our group who got likewise tagged.
A very determined family on the way to the temple carrying pots of milk to offer there. This family passed us. They moved well through the crowd.
Where's Waldo? was a game we frequently played when we were out as a group. Can you find Charles and Kate? Easy here but often not so.
and a nice photo of two of our gracious hosts, Linda and Kate — indeed they are gracious and patient - you know who they have as house guests. (one of them being me)
Guess who made a couple of nice photographs? (and made a purchase?) yes the the correct answer would be Marie to both questions.
In case you had not learned much geography, we are in the tropics, like four or five degrees, (those little bitty lines on a map) north of the equator. that means it is hot and mostly moist most of the year. Hence things grow. We have been on some wonderful walks through some of this too. Patt has really enjoyed these as you can imagine.
and since travel is often a time of self discovery, as soon as I saw this sign I knew it was talking both to me and about me. - especially when I saw the subscript. so much more to learn and see and do.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He's talking about Marcus Brody (Marcus/Mark, how apropos!) Here's the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOmpLholhvI
ReplyDeleteI love following your adventures on your blog!
Dad certainly blends in anywhere!! Ha! I love that last picture of you and would think it needs to be framed and put on your desk at work. But, since you are retired you will have to find another place, maybe Christmas cards?!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I fit in......
ReplyDeleteWe did have a good time, but now I am struggling with 13 time zones of jet lag!
