Prague to Bratislava — not the direct route

It is not far between many of the European capital cities, so we elect not to drive the most direct route. This morning we drove east out of Prague toward the small town of Kolin in the Bavarian region of the Czech Republic before turning toward Slovakia.

Below is Olinsky, one of the many small communities we drove through - about 4 houses on the left side of the road and 6 on the right.

On a four lane stretch just after a construction delay section, the opposite direction had a serious back up of trucks. Trucks in this part of the EU stay in the right lane. Yes, you read that right. They do not speed and they STAY in the right lane. I reckon the trucking companies lobby is not as strong in the EU as it is in the Congress of the US.

We passed some old farm buildings.

But we passed some huge modern farms too. The yellow flowers in the fields are canola oil plants -  known as rapeseed in Europe.

We stopped for lunch in Kolin and ate in a small restaurant on the city square where Patt is checking out the bedding plants and flowers for sale in the market.
